As a doctoral researcher studying dynamic river ecosystems, I developed a broad range of skills in research design, macroinvertebrate sampling and identification, hydroecological modelling in R, peer-review and publishing in internationally recognised academic journals.

Supervisors - Prof. Rachel Stubbington, Dr Erika Whiteford, Tim Sykes and Dr Judy England.

Funding - Nottingham Trent University, the Environment Agency, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, and the Vitacress Conservation Trust.

As a postgraduate student, I built upon the foundation acquired during undergraduate study with modules in:

River and Lake Management – understanding the dynamic nature of lentic and lotic systems via the collection and analysis of sediment, water chemistry, zooplankton, macroinvertebrate and fish survey data.

Hydroclimatic Monitoring and Modelling – using the Python coding language to produce a weather prediction model.

Research Design and Professional Practice – developing the skills required to plan, pitch and execute complex research programmes.

Thesis supervisor – Prof. Paul Wood.

As an undergraduate student, I gained a wide range of skills in:

GIS – using ArcGIS and Erdas IMAGINE to create maps, orthocorrect aerial imagery and generate DEMs.

Geographical Fieldwork – surveying ephemeral stream channels in SE Spain and mapping glacial landforms in Wales.

Geographical Politics, Issues and Ethics – managing and understanding stakeholder to foster productive working relationships.

Climate, Geology, Soils and Vegetation – holistically evaluating physical environments as the foundation of sustainable ecosystems and human societies.
